Water removal
If you have a flooded cellar action needs to be taken quickly to extract the water, find the cause of the cellar flooding and begin the drying process. We will pump out the water and look into the cause of the problem. If the problem is with plumbing or drainage we will quote to fix it.
Broken leaking drains, groundwater flooding, flash flooding, malfunctioning sump pumps and internal plumbing leaks are all common causes of flooded cellars.
All flood water is considered black. So if your cellar has been flooded due to groundwater flooding or other external causes, you should avoid entering it.
Groundwater flooding
If you live in a low-lying area, or in an area with a naturally high water table, you are more at risk of groundwater flooding being the cause of a flooded cellar.
Burst water main
A burst water main can lead to cellar flooding in a very short space of time, its worth checking this especially if you have an old lead main as water will make its way through any cracks and crevices in your cellars brickwork.
Sump pits
Buildings with cellars are often designed with a sump pit. A sump pit is a pit or hollow in which water can collect. But if this water, for whatever reason, cannot be drained away, then the pit will continue to fill until it overflows, subsequently flooding your cellar.
To help reduce the risk of a sump pit overflowing, sump pumps are often installed. This is commonly done at build stage, although many homeowners fit them retrospectively. The purpose of these pumps is to periodically pump collected water out and away from the pit.
It is essential that these sump pumps and drainage systems are regularly maintained. If they’re not, the water from your sump pit doesn’t get drained away adequately and thus risks overflowing and you have a flooded cellar.
So if you need a cellar pumped out and a drain cctv survey or the plumbing checked give us a call.
