If your home was built before 1970, there’s a chance that your water supply pipe is made from lead. This is the pipe that brings water into your home from the water main in the street. These days, lead pipes are no longer used for health reasons.
Medical experts believe that traces of lead in your water can be harmful. There is an easy way to check to see whether your water supply pipe is made of lead. Look for the pipe that runs from outside to your stop tap, for the majority of homes this will be under the kitchen sink, or in a downstairs toilet. Lead pipes are pretty distinctive. They are dark grey (underneath any paint), soft, and easily marked.
Even if the rest of your pipes are made from copper, your supply pipe could still be lead. We will replace the old water main with new plastic pipe to provide you with a reliable supply of drinking water and reduce the disruption caused to you when a water main bursts.
Impact Moling is a cost effective and environmentally friendly solution for many water main repairs and installation projects used instead of digging trenches.
Moling involves excavating pits at intervals for the mole to be placed. The mole is then driven into the ground on the horizontal face at the bottom of the pit. Destination pits of similar proportions are also dug, and this is where the mole emerges. The mole itself is a steel cylinder, it works as a pneumatic cylinder with pulsed compressed air causing the head of the mole to repeatedly hammer against the soil in front of the mole. The mole displaces the soil creating a bore for the new services to then be pulled through. This reduces the installation time, disturbance and cost.
This trenchless method is ideal for the installation of shorter runs of water mains and pumped sewer lines.
We can advise you as to whether it is a cost-effective or feasible option for your project.
